Another German invasion!?

There are German soldiers in the street... Looking strangely familiar - but then I have seen a lot of films from & of the war... (Incidentally, the white building at the top of the photo is where I work.)Now, I'm not that dumb... I realise they must be making a film of sorts (some streets were blocked and parking only by permission by the police - besides, the cameras sort of gave it away...) - but this still gave me the creeps... Closer up ... This is the Norwegian Storting (The Parliament) - and except for the crane, this is just what it looked like back in April 1940...
And a jolly good morning to all of you too! Or should I say - Guten Morgen?

So, your parliament is called 'big thing'! Which I guess makes sense, as the Danish one is of course 'the people's thing' (folketinget). I love Scandinavian to English literal translations! :-)

And did you ever find out what they were filming?

Crikey! Run away while you still can!
May I suggest you join the Rufus tour bus? ;)

The title of your page grabbed my attention and here I sit, posting a reply to your blog. I absolutely loved the line "Lately I've taken to thinking in English." Being an American I forget there are other languages in which to think. I must comment on your blog about the couple from the boat. I found this to be a lovely tribute to a couple whom you observed but didn't know. (I read your past blog, before the death of the
60+). I think everyone should know that kind of love.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

What are you waiting for? You need to be joining the resistance!!

Watch a few old episodes of 'Allo 'Allo just to make sure you get it right.

"Now listen very carefully, I shall say this only once"

Kim - it is called 'big thing', but as in the Danish, "thing" isn't "thing" ... It means "assembly" ;) But you probably knew that...

DM - You know I would ... if I could!

Anon I - thank you for stopping by, and taking time to read! That couple affected me so I had to write something :) I saw 50+ (actually he's 46, I checked his facebook...) this morning too, today he wasn't wearing his ring any more...

Anon II - I have watched all episodes of 'Allo 'Allo (not only once!) and I'm pleased to say the invasion is now over :)

I didn't know that it meant 'assembly', actually. However, I did assume that it meant something other than just 'thing'. But of course, mistranslating is much more fun. Consider that I just the other day picked up a mattress for the moses basket we'll be using (old basket, passed down from baby to baby, but old rotting mattress that needed to go). From the scum shop (skumbutik). Yes, my daughter will be sleeping on a bed of scum. That's much more interesting than just saying foam, don't you think?

I was Anonymous 2 (the allo allo guy)... I didn't realize it didn't leave my name. I'm swinging by again to wish you Καλή Ανάσταση... it's Easter in Greece this upcoming weekend.
